Tampere Vocal Music Festival for first-time visitors

The Tampere Vocal Music Festival is a five-day festival about vocal music. The Festival is held every two years. It is held in June in odd-numbered years. The Festival presents performances by choirs and vocal ensembles from Finland and abroad. Venues

Tampere Hall is the main venue of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival. Tampere Hall is in the city centre only 500 m from the railway station and 1 km from the bus station. The main entrance to Tampere Hall is on Yliopistonkatu. When you enter through the main entrance, you will see the ticket office and the info desk on the left. A free cloakroom, lockers and stroller parking area are on the right. You can also find the Festival Info desk and the Choir Forum in the foyer of Tampere Hall.

The auditoriums at Tampere Hall have seating for the audience. You may choose your seat freely. Please remain silent when you listen to the performances. There is room to stand on the sides and at the back of each auditorium if you do not feel comfortable sitting.

There are also concerts at other venues and churches in the city centre of Tampere. You may choose your seat freely at these concerts too. You can find the addresses of the venues and accessibility information on the Venues page.

Programme

Contest for Vocal Ensembles

The Contest for Vocal Ensembles is held in the Small Auditorium of Tampere Hall on Wednesday and Thursday. In the competition round on Wednesday, each ensemble gives a performance of 15 minutes. The Concluding Concert and prize ceremony are on Thursday.

Chorus Review

The Chorus Review is the main event of the Tampere Vocal Music Festival. The Chorus Review features about 50 choirs. Each choir gives a performance of 15 minutes in the Main Auditorium of Tampere Hall. The Chorus Review lasts from morning to early evening each day from Thursday to Saturday. The Concluding Concert of the Chorus Review is on Sunday. Merit awards will be given out to choirs at the end. You can buy a day ticket or an all-access pass to the Chorus Review.

Concerts

The Tampere Vocal Music Festival features a series of evening concerts with high quality performances. These concerts are at Tampere Hall and at other venues in the city centre of Tampere.

Hear the Festival!

Hear the Festival! is a series of concerts to which admission is free. The concerts are set all around the city centre of Tampere in sometimes surprising locations.

Courses and discussions

The programme also includes several short courses and public discussions. You must pay a fee to attend the courses. The public discussions are free of charge.

Choir Forum

The Choir Forum is the meeting point in the foyer of Tampere Hall. The Choir Forum features pop-up performances, discussions and exhibition stands for choral music operators.
