Input for Improvisation

In this workshop, Kaisa Halmemies leads participants through a variety of exercises in vocal improvisation, acceptance, rhythm, expression, communication and creative voice use, plus an introduction to the Vocal Painting sign language. The goal is to have fun, to jam together, to find new inspiration and to foster a positive attitude to improvisation. “Everything you do is perfect.”

Kaisa Halmemies is the founder and conductor of the Kipinät choir, an award-winning musician and choir conducting professional who combines pop/jazz vocals, corporeal awareness, drama and creativity in her work. She graduated as a choir conductor and a pop/jazz voice teacher at the Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark, completing a master’s degree in the rhythm music choir conducting programme in 2020. She also studied music and drama education at the University of Jyväskylä. She was awarded the conductor’s prize at the Tampere Vocal Music Festival in 2019.
